Exploring Sri Lanka Without Barriers at Rambadagalle Viharaya in Kurunegala
Manique Gunaratne created an opportunity to a group of persons with disabilities to visit the Rambadagalle Viharaya in March 2024. Traveling and visiting religious places is not just about sightseeing—it’s about healing, inspiration, and connection. For persons with disabilities, these journeys can bring immense joy, empowerment, and a sense of belonging. Sri Lanka, with its rich heritage and serene landscapes, offers countless opportunities for accessible spiritual and cultural experiences.
One such gem is the Rambadagalle Viharaya in Kurunegala. Nestled amidst lush greenery, this tranquil Buddhist temple is home to the
largest granite Buddha statue in the world, standing as a symbol of peace and
resilience. The serene environment and breathtaking craftsmanship make it a
must-visit location for spiritual reflection.
Sri Lanka must continue its journey toward making such
sacred spaces more #inclusive and accessible for everyone. Together, we can
ensure that all people, regardless of ability, can experience the joy and
spirituality that these sacred places offer.
Share your travel experiences or thoughts on accessibility in Sri Lanka’s religious sites! Let’s create a more inclusive and welcoming community.
