Breaking Barriers: Advancing Disability Inclusion in Sri Lanka’s Apparel Industry

The Better Work Disability Inclusion initiative, launched by the International Labour Organization (ILO) with support from the Australian Government, is a groundbreaking effort to enhance employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in Sri Lanka's apparel sector. This initiative also focuses on fostering an inclusive and supportive industry environment. The official launch event took place at the Cinnamon Life Hotel in December 2024, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates. Manique Gunaratne, a prominent disability rights advocate, served as a panelist, sharing valuable insights on vocational training and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. This initiative marks a significant step toward creating a more inclusive workforce in Sri Lanka’s thriving apparel industry.
