This blog explores the transformative importance of travel for persons with disabilities, highlighting a special Lord Buddha pilgrimage to #Dambadiwa, India. #Manique Gunaratne together with the team from #Damrivi Foundation worshiped the #Mulagandakuti Vihara in November 2024. It also delves into the spiritual and historical significance of the Mulagandakuti Vihara in #Varanasi — a sacred site that stands as a testament to the enduring teachings of the Buddha. The Mulagandakuti Vihara is a modern Buddhist temple located in #Sarnath, near Varanasi, India — one of the most sacred sites in Buddhism. It was built by the #Mahabodhi Society of India under the leadership of #Anagarika #Dharmapala, a key figure in the revival of Buddhism in India and Sri Lanka. Completed in 1931, the vihara was established near the historical site where the Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon, setting in motion the Wheel of Dharma (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta).

Buddha’s journey of enlightenment with remarkable grace and color. Surrounding the vihara is the peaceful Mulagandha Kuti Vihara Monastery, where monks reside and visitors can experience the serenity and teachings of Buddhism.

A revered Bodhi tree, grown from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, stands within the grounds, offering a living link to the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment. The Mulagandakuti Vihara is not just a place of worship, but also a symbol of international Buddhist heritage and a beacon of peace, compassion, and unity.

ඉන්දියාවේ බරණැස (වාරාණසි) නගරයට ආසන්නයේ සාරාණාත් හී පිහිටි මූලගන්ධකුටි විහාරය බුද්ධ කාලීන ඉතිහාසයට අයත් අතිවිශිෂ්ට ආගමික ස්ථානයකි. මෙහි පැරණි මූලගන්ධ කුටි විහාරය ධර්මාශෝක රජු විසින් ඉදි කළ අතර, පසුකාලීන ආක්‍රමණ හමුවේ විනාශ වී ඇත. නව මූලගන්ධ කුටි විහාරය ඉදිකරනු ලැබුවේ 20 වැනි සියවසේ බෞද්ධ ආගම නැවත පුනර්ජීවනය කිරීමේ ව්‍යාපාරයේ ප්‍රමුඛයා වූ අනගාරික ධර්මපාල තුමා විසිනි.

මූලගන්ධකුටි විහාරය පිහිටා ඇති ස්ථානය, ගෞතම බුදු රජානන් වහන්සේ තම ප්‍රථම ධර්ම දේශනාව — ධම්මචක්ක පවත්තන සූත්‍රය' — පඤ්චවග්ගිය භික්ෂූන්ට දේශනා කළ පූජනීය භූමිය අසල පිහිටා ඇත.

මූලගන්ධකුටි විහාරය, නිවන් මග පසසමින් චින්තනය සහ භාවනාව සඳහා උපරිම පරිසරයක් සලසන සුන්දර ආගමික ස්තානයක් වන අතර, ඉන්දියාව සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකාව අතර බෞද්ධ සම්බන්ධතා සනිටුහන් කරන අපූරු සංකේතයක් ද වෙයි.

බරණැස ඉසිපතන මිගදායේ බුදුන් වහන්සේ වැඩසිටි කුටිය ලෙස සැලකෙන මුලගන්ධ කුටියට එම නම ලැබී ඇත්තේ බුදුන් වහන්සේ ප්‍රථම වරට වැඩසිටි ස්ථානය බැවින් බව සඳහන් වෙයි. . ධර්මාශෝක රජු විසින් ඉදිකළ විහාරයේ නටබුන් අදද දක්නට ලැබෙන්නේය.
