UNDP SYMPOSIUM ON CATALYZING CHANGE: MAKING LOCAL GOVERNANCE FUTURE-FIT

#Manique Gunaratne, the Team Leader of the “#Disability #Accessibility Project” of the #UNDP #CDLG project was invited to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) symposium titled “Catalyzing Change: Making #Local #Governance Future-Fit", held at the #Galadari #Hotel Colombo in June 2024.

The symposium was organized with the objective of creating a space designed to foster productive exchanges of insights and best practices among stakeholders in relation to local governance. The content was drawn extensively from the lessons and experiences gained over 5 years through the Capacity Development of Local Government Project (CDLG), funded by the #European #Union.

The space was created with the aim to identify opportunities for scaling best practices, reflect on governance challenges and solutions and promote multi stakeholder collaboration and will explore topics such as Accountable, Anticipatory, Agile and Adaptive Governance (AAAG), Application of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Data and planning for Inclusive Governance, Renewable Energy & Sustainable Waste Management, Tax and Revenue Management, and SDG localization, Societal Change, Youth and Women’s Civic Participation.

The event was organized in collaboration with the #Ministry of #Public #Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government and the European Union Delegation in Sri Lanka.

Conference room scene with several people sitting at round tables covered in white cloths. The lighting in the room is predominantly blue, giving the image a cool tint. In the foreground, a woman in a sari sits at a table, looking upward and slightly to the side. She has dark hair pulled back and is wearing a conference lanyard. Next to her sits a man in glasses and a dress shirt, focused on his phone. To the right, another man in a blue shirt and tie is also looking downward, perhaps at a phone or papers. A metal water jug and an empty glass are visible on the table. In the background, a woman stands, holding a book and a handbag, with more people visible at tables and walking around. The atmosphere appears formal, likely during a meeting or conference session.

A conference or seminar setting inside a large hall. The room is filled with round tables covered in white tablecloths, each table surrounded by white chairs with dark blue sashes tied at the back. People are seated and facing forward toward a large stage with a bright screen displaying a woman speaking. There are floral centerpieces and water glasses on the tables. The ceiling has modern chandelier light fixtures with glowing circular rings, and the room is illuminated in blue and white tones. At the front, a few cameras and people are positioned to record or stream the event. There’s a sign on a nearby table that reads “STRIDE” and mentions “Catalyzing Change: Making Local Governance Future Fit.”
