Access for all at Galnawa Pradeshiya Sabha

The team from EFC led by #Manique Gunaratne which included persons with diverse disabilities did an disability accessibility checking to give recommendations at Galnawa Pradeshiya Sabha, in Anuradhapura district,  in North Central Province in December 2021 to give recommendations on how to make the Galnawa Pradeshiya Sabha access for all. 2 Advocacy Group discussions were held with persons with disabilities belonging to Galnawa Pradeshiya Sabha and staff members (persons with non-disabilities) of the Pradeshiya Sabha on how to have an inclusive approach when providing services which already exists. People with disabilities are more likely than the general population to suffer anxiety, discomfort, and animosity. To a significant measure, such attitudes arise from a lack of understanding of disability and what it's like to live in a world with individuals who do not share that experience. Therefore, this initiative greatly supported to bring a change to create an inclusive approach.

The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, Specialised Training & #Disability Resource Centre in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and  the European Union (EU) took the initiative to implement a project to provide recommendations on Disability #Accessibility and Capacity Building of Local Government Authorities in Sri Lanka. This project is part of an initiative supported under the Capacity Development of Local Governments (CDLG) project implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sri Lanka with the financial assistance of the European Union (EU).

Group of people standing outdoors in front of a building. Most of them are standing, and one man is seated in a wheelchair in the center. They are all wearing face masks and name badges, suggesting a formal or professional gathering, possibly for a work or community event. A mix of men and women are present, some in formal attire, including a woman in a blue saree. The sunlight is bright and the overall mood looks positive and professional. There are a few people and notices visible in the background near the building entrance.

The photo shows a group of people gathered under an open-sided shelter with a metal roof. The ground is dirt or concrete. On the left, several people, including a number of women wearing sarees and face masks, are seated in a curved line of plastic chairs. On the right, a smaller group of people is visible, with one woman seated at a dark desk or table. In the background, there is a large blue tractor and a white tanker truck parked inside the shelter area. Behind the vehicles and the shelter's structure, there is a brick-like building and a dense area of green trees and foliage. The setting appears to be a community meeting or gathering in a semi-rural or industrial area.

The image shows the main sign for a local government office in Sri Lanka, viewed from the street. The sign is a large maroon or reddish-brown rectangular board with text in both Sinhala (on top) and English (on the bottom). The English text reads "GALNEWA PRADESHIYA SABHA". There is also a governmental emblem or logo at the top center.

The image shows two men inside what appears to be a library or archive room. They are standing in an aisle between tall, dark metal cabinets or glass-doored bookcases. The cabinets on both sides are filled with books, papers, or files. On the left cabinet, several pieces of paper with lists or notes are taped to the glass. The man in the foreground is wearing a blue shirt, dark trousers, and a black face mask. He is facing away from the camera and is looking at the contents of the cabinet on the right. The second man, partially visible behind him, is wearing a red shirt and a white face mask and is also looking at the shelves. The room has a light-colored floor and walls, and more shelving units can be seen extending into the background.
