Basawakkulama tank

The United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), Article 30 states that “Enjoy access to places for cultural performances or services, such as theatres, museums, cinemas, libraries and tourism services, and, as far as possible, enjoy access to monuments and sites of national cultural importance” is a right of persons with #disabilities. Manique Gunaratne took the initiative to give the opportunity to a group of persons with diverse disabilities to visit the Abhaya Tank in Anuradhapura district in November 2021.

Basawakkulama Wewa, also known as Abhaya Wewa, is a reservoir which is situated in Anuradhapura. It was built by the great king of Anuradhapura ,Pandukabhaya during his regin. At present the tank carries 174 hectares of water at the surface and has not yet failed to supply water to Anuradhapura.

A large, calm body of water under an overcast sky. The sky is filled with thick, grey clouds, and there is a faint light from the hidden sun, possibly indicating early morning or late evening. The horizon line is marked by a narrow strip of trees, and the water below reflects some of the sky's muted light. The overall mood of the scene is peaceful and subdued, with cool, muted colors dominating the image.

A woman sitting on a concrete barrier The scene shows a wide, cloudy sky over a large body of water, possibly a lake or reservoir, with calm water stretching to the horizon. The pathway beside the water is paved with bricks and runs alongside a grassy verge. The woman is dressed formally with a dark suit and white blouse, sitting between two large cylindrical concrete barriers. The background is lush with green trees, and the atmosphere is calm, with overcast sky and a hint of sunlight peeking through the clouds.

A man in a wheelchair is sitting on a paved pathway beside a large, calm body of water. He is looking out at the water, with his hands resting on his lap. The sky above is covered with clouds, indicating either early morning or late afternoon. The pathway runs parallel to the edge of the water, and there are trees and green foliage in the background, as well as some overhanging branches in the foreground to the left. The scene is peaceful and serene.
