Hearing-Impaired Children Receive Educational Support to Promote Equal Access to Education

The Sri Lanka Deaf Rehabilitation Organization held its 20th Annual Christmas and New Year Celebration in December 2022 at the Public Library Auditorium in Colombo. The event was organized with the participation of members from across the island, along with their families, invited guests, and well-wishers.

The primary objective of the program was to support the education of hearing-impaired children and children of hearing-impaired parents by promoting equal access to learning opportunities. As part of this initiative, educational support packages consisting of school books, stationery, learning equipment, and school uniforms were distributed to the children to help them prepare for the new academic year.

This meaningful contribution aimed to encourage confidence, inclusion, and educational continuity among children with hearing impairments. The educational materials were generously donated by Ms. Manique Gunaratne, Ms. Harini Padmasiri, Ms. Geethika Sinhabahu, Ms. Rusiri De Silva, and Mr. Windika Jayasinghe, reinforcing the importance of community support in ensuring the right to education for persons with disabilities.

Group of people gathered around a traditional brass oil lamp. The lamp is decorated with flower garlands and is lit with several flames. The individuals, both men and women, are dressed in formal and traditional attire, with one woman wearing a blue saree and another in a red embroidered saree. The setting appears to be indoors, possibly at an event or ceremony, and the background includes wooden panels, curtains, and a staircase. The mood is focused and respectful, indicating the significance of the lamp-lighting ritual.

Two people inside a room, standing and smiling as they hold a box labeled "BOOKS" together. The woman is dressed in a navy blouse and a light-colored skirt, while the man wears a white polo shirt with a yellow and green logo and dark trousers. Behind them is a banner with English, Sinhala, and Tamil writing that reads "Sri Lanka Deaf Rehabilitation Organization" and features a yellow sun logo. There is also a small Christmas decoration with a "Merry Christmas" message on the upper right of the banner. On a table next to the man, there are several more boxes and bags, suggesting some kind of donation or distribution event. The atmosphere appears friendly and collaborative.

Behind them, there is a large banner in multiple languages reading "Sri Lanka Deaf Rehabilitation Organisation" along with symbols of the organization and the national flag. The front of the stage has a Lions Club International logo and colorful decorations, creating a formal yet festive atmosphere. The people on stage appear to be part of a ceremony or presentation, possibly related to the work of the organization.
