Australian Awards Includes Persons with Disability
Ms. Manique Gunaratne created an opportunity for two trainees of The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, Specialised Training & #Disability Resource Centre for the Australian Awards. Mr. Tuan Cassim (vision impaired) and Ms. Chani Jayathilake (physical disability) received the Australia Awards scholarship to complete their Masters Degree in Australia in 2022. Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international scholarships offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) and funded by the Australian Government, offering nearly 5000 scholarships a year in over 150 countries. In Sri Lanka, the Australia Awards Scholarships are offered for Master’s degree-level qualifications and are open to professionals from government, private and civil society (NGO) sectors, in the priority development sectors of Health Security, Stability and Economic Recovery in line with DFAT’s Sri Lanka COVID-19 Development Response Plan.
The Australia Awards Scholarships provides eligible applicants the opportunity to gain a world class education and an internationally recognised qualification from Australian Universities. EFC Specialised Training & Disability Resource Centre organised several information session in-person and virtually via an online platform.
The application and selection process is open and competitive, based on merit, transparency and equal access. The Australia Awards office in Sri Lanka conducts information sessions during the application period, providing important details on the application process, eligibility criteria, priority development sectors and fields of study, target groups of applicants and the documentation requirement.
A reception to congratulate the Sri Lankan recipients of Australia Awards for Intakes 2021 and 2022 was held at the Movenpick Hotel in May 2022.
