Leisure time for persons with disability
Article 30 in the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with #Disability (UNCRPD) (identifies the right of persons with disability to take part on an equal basis with others in cultural life, and to participate on an equal basis with others in recreational, leisure and sporting activities. A higher proportion of people with disability report having little choice over their free time compared with people with non-disability. Commitment is essential on widening access and participation and ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place to deliver sporting and cultural opportunities. cultural participation are lower for those with a physical or mental health condition.
Community activities provide great benefits to the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities and this improves their quality of life. Manique Gunaratne took the initiative to give the opportunity to a group of persons with diverse disability in leisure activities at Hotel Ahash, Mannar in April 2022.
